Med Mix

A few weeks ago I ended up downtown in P Square for a killer show at the J & M cafe. Shout out to the guy managing the sweet sound and the crazy bartenders who mixed the worst drinks . My friend M. and I went next door to grab a quick bite before the show and she was shocked to hear that I had never eaten at Mediterranean Mix. Upon first walking in I wasn't sure about this place but she insisted it was really good. I was overwhelmed by the choices because all of the pictures showcasing their menu items made it hard to decide. Do I want pizza, fish and chips, chicken salad, hot dog...!?!?!?!?

After a long deliberation we finally decided and stepped up to order. M. went with the Gyro, which she said is one of her favorite things to get. I went with the falafel.

The soda fountain was broken so we shared a can of sprite and helped it out with a little of beam, M. had in her bag. Such a classy move on our part. We totally fit in though, it seemed like lots of other patrons were enjoying spirits as well.

The falafel was hot, crispy and spicy. It has been awhile since I have had really good falafel and I was very impressed. The entire sandwich was right on the veggies, the pita and the tahini were perfect. I ate it so fast and had no time to focus on what M. was eating, I was in a trance. She loved her gyro as well and we both commented on the nice hot sauce on the side.


This sandwich was like under 5bucks too, and it was perfect. I dont get down to Pioneer Square very often but I will make sure to stop by for some more falafel when I do.

Dear "the Central" in Pioneer Square,

Fuck you and your bullshit "gas prices" excuse for trying not to hook someone up on their birthday with a free drink. Ok ok, I had the Cascade Carver sando ($9.95), which was smoked turkey with bacon, grilled onions and mayo on toasted bread. I got a salad to go with it, which is another point I'll be bringing up momentarily. My friend, who's birthday it is, got a grilled chicken sando that was served on a burger bun and I couldn't tell you how it was cause all he did was massage the bun since he wasn't feelin so good from an early celebration last night. Originally, I had ordered a pork sando, but guess what, this rinky dink operation they are running had no fucking pork. I've been there before when they had no bacon!@#! Are you kidding me. I think someone is drinking too much of what they should be servin birthday folks to set up their inventory proper. So my food tasted alright, the price, well I've seen better, but the flavor was there.

So when the bill arrived I realized a mistake was made where there was $1 charged for each our salads and the birthday drinks were on there. On the menu you are given the option of a salad or fries, but apparently motherfuckers decided "gas prices" were going up so they are tacking on an additional $1 for salads and she said she couldn't waive it cause her "boss asked her to crack the whip" on this policy. Fuck off. When she came back w/ our credit cards she picked up his shot, but in our earlier conversation that wasn't gonna be happenin.

Well, if anyone is looking for an alternative place to enjoy lunch & drinks in Pioneer Sq that respects and honors a persons birthday feel free to enjoy either the J&M, New Orleans Cafe, or Contour just to name a quick few. Now it's time for me to settle my nerves with some 51.5% Fighting Cock.

It seems like you can go to lots of places in this city that feature clam chowder as a daily soup. I am always hesitant to order soup at restaurants because of my ongoing struggle with food temperature. Now, I may be on the extreme side of that argument but nevertheless I will say that soup should ALWAYS be hot. Before an event downtown in pioneer square, a friend and I wanted to grab something quick to eat. We were around the corner from FX McRory's so we walked in to check it out. The menu is large and offers sandwiches, burgers, steaks, chicken all simply dressed with some Northwest flavors.

I ordered a cup of soup and a glass of whiskey.

The soup was HOT and pretty tasty. It was on the side of your average clam chowder but it had a nice flavor which may or not have been the extra pepper on top. The clams were not minced and rough, rather large and soft. Perhaps they truly do make this from scratch with some local fish.

The whiskey selection was huge, and this place claims to have one of the biggest selection of premium spirits in America. If I remember correctly its like something around 750 labels. Nice.

Overall I wouldnt set foot in this place on the day/night of any kind of sports game, home or away because the televised shit was just as loud. Its just not my scene. However, I do know lots of people who like to bro down in there.

Subway in Pioneer Sq.

If you are ever in Pioneer Square looking for a quick sandwich without spending more than $5, and don't mind smelling like a sandwich for the rest of the day even after you wash your hands, then I suggest you stop in at Subway on James & 1st. They offer a different sub every day, I think it's $3 for a 6", and if you don't like what they are selling just add bacon for 60 cents. That makes everything taste good.
